UAB is part of the University of Alabama System and is governed by the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is the official body designated to accept testamentary gifts on behalf of UAB.

We recommend the following language or similar wording for inclusion of UAB in your will or living trust and ask that you include UAB’s legal name in your charitable bequest language as it is set forth in the following samples. Please share these samples with the attorney who will prepare your estate planning documents:

Residual Bequest: I hereby give, devise, and bequeath ______ percentage (____%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to The Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama for The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Bequest of Specific Dollar Amount: I hereby give, devise, and bequeath the sum of _______ dollars ($_______) in cash or cash equivalent to The Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama for The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Specific Bequest: I hereby give, devise, and bequeath (address or description of property such as real estate, a car, collection, or piece of artwork) to The Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama for The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

You are able to designate your gift more specifically, directing that it be used for a precise purpose at UAB. Please contact us to discuss your intent more fully, and we will recommend sample language tailored to your wishes.

Additionally, you also may wish to endow your gift. To do so, you must specify that you would like for the funds to be endowed (held in perpetuity). Gift agreements are used to set forth the details of the uses and limitations of your contribution according to your wishes.
